| On Saturday, September 20, 2003, we (Bob Reiss, Bill
Jeffrey, Bill Jennings, Jason Cramer, Anne & Jim, Terry Thompson and I)
presented the power pole saw to the rangers at Lake Morena.
The brother of Dave Martinez, the former head ranger and now an
administrator in the County Parks & Rec offices, was tending shop on a
busy, busy day with a carnival going on, a volunteer clean-up of the lake
and the Teamsters meeting there along with many, many "Sunbirds" RV'ers.
AsABat and I informed him of our intentions and he informed us that he was
the only ranger there. However, another staff member came in shortly and
so we were able to proceed.
We stood out by the PCT crossing at the entrance where the glass case
is and just took some pictures and I said, "We, the organizers and
supporters of the ADZPCTKO offer this gift in appreciation for your
hosting the event, and it is hoped, in these times of short budgets, that
this will help to maintain the park."
Afterwards, we talked and brainstormed a bit on planning for the 6th
event.
