Trail Maintenance ProjectThere will be a PCTA trail maintenance project a short distance south of Lake Morena during the PCT Kickoff, April 22 - 25. A half dozen or so of our volunteers will be staying at Lake Morena CG and attending the kickoff when they aren't working. Kickoff attendees are encouraged to join PCT maintenance crews. We will need advance notice in order to provide tools, transport, and supervision. On Thursday and Friday, volunteers will work in Hauser Canyon. Meet at Lake Morena entrance at 0745 for brief signup/orientation, convoy or hike to work site in Hauser Canyon (Map A-3). Need 12 volunteers for tread work. From Friday through Sunday, the work continues at Hook’s Bridge (Maps A-4 & A-5). Need 12 volunteers to continue brushing and tread work done last year north from Lake Morena. Meet 0745 at Park entrance, convoy to Hook’s Bridge on Buckman Springs Road. Saturday is optional; most of you will probably want to attend the Kickoff program. Volunteers will need to wear stout gloves and boots, long pants and sleeves to protect from brush, and bring a lunch, day pack, sun protection, and water bottles. Volunteers can expect the work to be moderately strenuous and anyone with a physical limitation who wants to work needs to tell their crew leader before heading out. Kickoff attendees would be welcome to work with us either for all, or for part. Any advance notice you can give us for the number of folks who want to work will be appreciated so that we can arrange to have enough tools and supervision on hand.
